The Chaos Cup

History

Originally known as the Whiteskull Challenge Cup from 2396-2438, and also known as the Chaos Open, the Chaos Cup is second only in prominence to the Blood Bowl Championship. Initially, the Chaos Cup was competed for by the eight top teams of the AFC while the NFC and AFC champions played in the Blood Bowl. Orcidas, in 2471, took over sponsorship of the award, and then banned the Elfheim Eagles for competing since the Eagles had no Chaos tainted players on their side, nor any Orcs. Only teams with at least one Chaos tainted player in the squad is allowed to compete. This is unfortunate, especially for the Reikland Reavers, who hold a record of 19 wins of the Chaos Cup.

With the collapse of the NAF in 2490, Orcidas and The Necromancers' Broadcasting Circle (NBC) opened up the tournament to all teams again. They also created a generally chaotic schedule of play-offs for the Chaos Cup that would last for three weeks. All teams have to schedule the matches themselves and are allowed to play as a many games as possible in that three week period, although a team cannot play the same team more than once. Teams score points for winning matches, and at the end of the three week timeframe, the four teams with the most points play in the semi-finals. The winners of those matches move to the final game. This format has proven popular among fans and viewership rivals that of the Blood Bowl Championship.

Prizes and Money

The prize and money offered to the winners of the Chaos Cup are the Chaos Cup Trophy and 350,000 gold pieces split between the two teams. It is important to note that the splitting of the winnings is entirely up to the sponsors and their capriciousness.
